MARIE & SARAH – Story I

This graphic Novel was written with the aim to be used as a community based educational tool for multi-sector integrated programming.  Written by Doctor Raul Schneider, Senior Health Advisor / World Vision Pacific and Timor Leste.

The story will be told orally (in many different local languages) while the community looks at the illustrations. It tells two parallel stories featuring Marie and Sarah and following their life cycle from conception to adulthood. These two girls are born in the same village, however the way they are supported through their journey to adulthood by their parents, family members and communities influence the outcome of their lives in very different ways. The narrative script (not featured in here) describes this journey, touching on key messages on Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition, Hygiene and Sanitation practice, Economic empowerment, Education, Gender Based Violence, Justice and Child Protection.

The illustrations will bring the story to life for the community members listening to the story through the facilitation of World Vision staff who will adapt the narrative to the community needs, address these key issues in local language and encourage discussion session after the stories are presented.

I am very proud to have completed the art direction, illustrations and graphic design of the first phase of this World Premiere for World Vision.
