SEED / Oxfam

Very happy to present the Logo and Cover Little by little designed for SEED (Social Economic Empowerment Dialogue). The program originally created by OXFAM Australia has been adapted to the use in the PACIFIC. Its ultimate goal is about creating gender-just, green, and sustainable economies. With Astrid Kersten, Ph.D., SPHR, GPHRExecutive Director, HCDI / for OXFAM.

Women and other marginalised groups, like people with disabilities or diverse genders, are at much greater risk of poverty and violence, around the world. They are often left out of or do not benefit from development, livelihoods or climate change projects. However, women’s economic empowerment is a critical factor in gender equality, women’s rights, and inclusive economic growth.

Women are also at higher risk of violence, when they have or control money. When women are encouraged to find paid work or start businesses, the need to redistribute their unpaid work – care for the family, the home, the gardens and the community– is often not addressed.

Women’s economic empowerment is not only about training women and providing access to paid work. It also, and more importantly, means that men need to be engaged in changing the norms, practices and structures that limit women’s rights, mobility, education, time, voice, leadership, access to and control of resources, economic opportunity and remuneration.

and works by engaging organisations, communities, and groups in a series of learning and action planning processes, designed to develop gender just, green, and productive economies. In doing so, SEED aims to nurture five root forces for change:

o   Restructuring work

o   Caring for the environment

o   Shifting power and voice

o    Creating plenty for all

o   Eliminating violence against women and girls
