The Commons Network asked me to design icons for a project about POST GROWTH. The reference for this project was Cities beyond Growth, which is a free six-week online course. The public was invited to reimagine urban life through the lens of post-growth thinking. This approach recognizes that rising GDP doesn’t necessarily mean better lives. This is especially true when it comes at the cost of social equity and ecological survival. But it also points to a hopeful future: cities built around well-being, climate justice and democratic participation.
The sessions aimed to offer both a critical lens and real-life, practical examples of how cities prioritize people and planet over profit. Each session focused on a vital urban domain. These domains included housing, mobility, food, care, energy, democracy and digitalisation. The sessions highlighted bold policies and community-led alternatives. These actions are already shaping post-growth futures.
I’ve researched ways to symbolise these various fields.
